Jean-Michel Brun, born in Paris on June 4, 1950, is a leading member of the pro-Azerbaijan lobby in France.
Formerly a documentary film-maker with his company Twins, then a communications consultant with Twins Events, he is now referred to in Azerbaijani circles as a “journalist” and “expert on the Arab-Muslim world” to enhance his status when speaking out in favor of Azerbaijan - a procedure also used almost systematically for other members of the Azerbaijan lobby.
In 2023, Jean-Michel Brun published the book "Choucha - The Pearl of the Caucasus" with Hermann Publishing in 2023, in which he propagates the lies of Azerbaijani propaganda about Artsakh and the city of Shushi, while claiming that it was only with the 44-Day War that he decided to travel to Nagorno-Karabakh to "better report" on this war.
What Jean-Michel Brun fails to mention is that he has been “editor-in-chief” of the online media MusulmansenFrance and LaGazette.az since 2020. The modus operandi of these French-language relays of Azerbaijani propaganda is to drown anti-Armenian pamphlets and pro-Azerbaijani tribunes in a mass of articles reproducing AFP dispatches word for word, in order to simulate impartiality and a large number of subjects covered. Created in 2020 from Internet archives, these sites prepared public opinion for the crimes perpetrated by Azerbaijan in the years that followed.
Jean-Michel Brun is thus part of Azerbaijan's strategy of influence in France, and the acknowledgements in his book illustrate this well, as they include: the Azerbaijani ambassador to France, Leyla Abdullayeva; the former ambassador, Rahman Mustafayev; the head of the embassy's cultural service, Aytan Mouradova; Soltan Mammadov, director of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation department; Sébastien Boussois and Karim Ifrak, “researchers” whose portraits you can read on this page; Vugar Aliyev, former First Secretary of the Azerbaijani Embassy in France; Maya Baghirova, regular embassy photographer; Reza Deghati, pro-Aliyev photographer; Ilgar Huseynov, Director General of the Azerbaijani state news agency Trend. az, and its representative in France Günel Safarova (also president of the ALIM association, Azerbaijan's scientific relay in France), among others.
On the various platforms at his disposal, Jean-Michel Brun regularly deploys Azerbaijani propaganda, on every possible subject: Artsakh, the “Armenian lobby”, Franco-Azerbaijani relations, and so on. Recently, Jean-Michel Brun, interviewed by Trend.az, asserted that France must have good relations with Aliyev's dictatorship, and that “the French don't give a damn about Armenia and have no idea what Armenia is”. A regular visitor to the Azerbaijani embassy, the former “journalist” is more active than ever in promoting his book, and Ilham Aliyev's regime.
Azerbaijan uses all available means and relays to silence its wars and crimes.
